Others have pretty much replied for me, but I'll just add
a bit to make it official. (The repsonses have been on the mark,
so I do not need to correct anything.)
The first OFFICIAL edition of The College Hockey Computer Rating
will come out in mid-December. TCHCR will come out weekly beginning
in January. At that same time, you may see it pop up in The Hockey
News and other places, in addition to HOCKEY-L.
Why wait? For the reason mentioned--there is not enough data for
valid ratings. Also, I am still playing around with the parameters
and doing research on it. When I get it all settled, I'll try to
send out some preliminary TCHCRs to HOCKEY-L. You certainly won't
see anything until everyone has played at least 2 different opponents!
Please, please, please, please, please do not call TCHCR a poll. Polls
are a bunch of opinions; TCHCR is a mathematical rating. They are
opposites. Please.
Finally, other members of HOCKEY-L are working on their own type of
rating system and you should be hearing from them soon. I am looking
forward to this--I understand it is "soup"-er.
