With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #2, in which all rounds are
scored the same, the overall winner - well, there are two of them this
year. The tiebreaker was to be the number of individual conference
contests won, but they won one each... so it's a tie overall between
Nick Markham and Wayne Smith
who each picked up 44 points, finishing two ahead of runners-up Jim
Edwards, Robin Lock, and the CHODR ratings.
As for the individual conference winners...
Nick Markham and Wayne Smith also tied for the top spot in the ECAC along
with the CHODR ratings, with 12 points each. The first tiebreaker went to
Nick, whose predicted final score of the championship game was only one
point off the actual result.
Hockey East saw a six-way tie among Andy Weise, John Edwards, Jim Dixon,
Craig Roberts, Nick Markham, and the CHODR ratings, with seven points each.
Andy, John, and Jim remained tied after the first tiebreaker, but the
second tiebreaker (total goals scored in the entire tournament) gave Andy
the title by four points.
Wayne Smith's 10 points were good for first place in the CCHA.
In the WCHA, Jim Dixon and Jim Edwards each had nine points, but Jim Dixon
won the first tiebreaker.
The Atlantic Hockey crown went to yours truly, who somehow managed seven
points.
From last week's update, Thom Davis won the CHA race in a tiebreaker, with
five points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 3-1) to be 4-2,
you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get three points;
and if you picked 5-4, you would get five points. Obviously, the lower
point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 3-1.
For Hockey East, the championship game score was 3-1, and the total goals
scored in the tournament was 60.
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 1-0.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 3-0.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.
