This comes up every now & then.  Under NCAA regulations, schools
whose athletic programs are classified as D-I may not sponsor any
sport at a lower level (D-II or D-III); i.e., if a school's program
is D-I, ALL of its sports must be played according to D-I
regulations.  In hockey, this produces the "Other Six":  UConn,
Canisius, Fairfield, Villanova, Holy Cross, and Iona.  All of these
schools play at what some call the "small college" level:  a mixture
of D-I, D-II and D-III teams.
