For the first time in nine years, the coaches of Maine (Class) A
Hockey Association awarded a Most Valuable Player at its awards
banquet, held in Portland last evening. The award has been named
in honor of Travis Roy, and rewards scholastic and athletic excellence,
as well as overcoming adversity.
The winner of the award was St. Dominic's (Lewiston) Brian Toussaint,
a forward who scored 23 goals and 46 assists while leading St. Dom's
to the best record in the state. He was injured in a hockey
tournament in Massachusetts last season, and took almost a year
to recover. He needed surgery to replace muscle in his leg, and
had to sit out soccer season last fall while rehabilitating the leg.
He plans to spend a year in a college development program before
going on to college.
It is hoped that Travis will be able to present the award in person
at next year's ceremonies.
