In the program for last week's OSU at University of Michigan game, there
was a good example of how all coaches (and SIDs) are optimistic in the
early part of the season.  Quoting from an article by Tom Lucia of the OSU
sports information office:
 
>"If life in the CCHA was a fairy tale, then the Ohio State Buckeyes, the
>league's ugly duckling the past three seasons, may finally be ready to
>enjoy a season that will end "happily ever after."  With encouraging
>improvement throughout 1993-94, plenty of youth and talent at key
>positions, and a batch of highly skilled freshmen, the Buckeyes will no
>doubt turn heads in 1994-95.
 
>"Something else will be different about the league this year, and that is
>the Ohio State hockey team," says Head Coach Jerry Welsh who enters his
>third decade (20th year) behind the Scarlet and Gray bench.  "We will
>undoubtedly be the most improved team this year and that will be
>noticeable from the beginning.  Traditionally, we have been a rapidly
>improving team as the season goes on.  This year, though, things will be
>measurably different from the start."
 
As we read these words right after watching UM defeat OSU 10-2, we
wondered if anyone other than the OSU coach felt this way.  The other
coaches in the CCHA (and the media) picked OSU to finish last again this
year, and the record so far seems to show no reason to believe that this
will not be the case.
