Here is the preseason version of The College Hockey Discussion List Poll:
Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.
Terrier fans should be happy, and not just because Boston University is
HOCKEY-L's preseason #1. In the 1992 preseason poll, Maine was ranked #1,
and the Black Bears went on to capture the national championship. In the
1993 poll, Lake Superior and BU were ranked #1 and #2; last April, those two
met for the title, with the Lakers winning. So there is a precedent...

difference between the Eastern and Western polls. One exception is Michigan
State, which is somewhat higher in the Western poll than in the Eastern one.

Here is a composite list of the HOCKEY-L poll and the three other preseason
rankings that have been posted (The Sporting News, American Hockey Magazine,
and WMEB). Note that TSN was a Top 20 poll, while AHM was a Top 10. WMEB
was also a Top 10 poll; the rankings in parentheses show where the teams in
"Others receiving votes" would have ranked if that poll were extended to a
Top 15.

For those of you who have not yet seen the "Tadpoll", it uses the above
results as voters. As in the HOCKEY-L poll, a team receives 15 points for
each first-place vote, 14 points for each second-place vote, and so on down
to one point for each fifteenth-place vote. Note that Cornell was ranked
#14 by TSN, which is why the Big Red appear in the Tadpoll but not in the
composite above.
