In a battle of two top 10 teams at the oldest rink in the world, New
Hampshire scored three times in the third to overcome a 2-1 deficit
and defeat host Northeastern, 4-2. It was the first loss of the season
for NU when leading or tied after two (now 8-1-0). NU played only
five defensemen in the game due to a season-ending injury to freshman
D Brad Klyn, and it appeared to take its toll in the third as the
Huskies were beaten to the puck in their own end and surrendered goals
to UNH's Eric Flinton, Scott Malone, and Jason Dexter. Both goalies
played well - Todd Reynolds for NU in a losing cause, and UNH's Mike
Heinke, who had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at him down the
stretch yet pulled out the win. It was a very evenly played game
between two teams that seem evenly matched; UNH just took advantage of
mistakes in the third.

The Wildcats were without the services of Eric Royal and Nick Poole.
Royal has missed the last few games with a shoulder injury. Poole
suffered a knee injury in the second period of Saturday's game against
Merrimack and did return that night to score a goal in UNH's attempted
third-period comeback. But he wasn't able to play tonight. I didn't
hear how long he'd be out, but that's 2/3 of UNH's top line there, so
this win is definitely a good one.

The rematch takes place this Friday night at UNH's Snively Arena. It
is the only remaining UNH home game that is not yet sold out.

UNH moved into sole possession of 2nd, while NU lost a chance to move
into a tie for second with BU. The Huntington Hounds are 11-5-2,
4-5-2 HE (5th), while UNH is 15-4-1, 6-3-1 HE (2nd). But don't let the
sub-.500 NU record fool you...the top 5 teams in HE have all been beating
each other lately, and no one has yet taken charge of the race.
