I suppose that this is possible, but I seem to remember that Clarkson
and St. Lawrence were going to become members of Hockey East when it
started in 1984, but RPI which plays Clarkson and SLU in other sports,
twisted their arms at the time, and they remained in the ECAC.  This
allowed an opening for Lowell in HE.  It would seem odd for RPI to
now join HE without Clarkson and SLU, however stranger things have happened.
I know that RPI did have an invitiation to join HE in 1984 and perhaps
this has remained open.
