Attempting to gain advantage by circumventing the rules is
cheating.
===
Sometimes I've looked upon the rule book and tried to figure
out what can "I get away with".

Witness Roger Nielson, when he was coaching Juniors, put
a defenseman out to defend against a penalty shot. The
rule book did not say anything about putting a goalie in. It is
not cheating, but gamesmanship. Needless to say, the
next year the rule was changed.

Roger was also the one that put the penalty shot in for
deliberate illegal substitution in the last 2 minor or OT. I
think he was down 5 on 3 late in a tight game and put 2
more players on the ice. As long as his players did not
control the puck, the play continued. When his players
touched the puck, it was just too many men on the ice, not
a shot.

Anyone can play with an illegal stick. Just be prepared for
the consequences when you get caught. 'Fess up, feel
shame, and serve your punishment.
