You left out the acknowledged No. 1 program builder in college hockey: Ron
Mason. Lake Superior State, Bowling Green, Michigan State.
I think he'd be the coaches' No. 1 choice, too, and any athletic director
you'd talk to.
I think Red Berenson is a terrific coach who is recruiting for a blue chip
school (the ultimately successful Michigan man), but look how many years it
took him to get that program where it is now. I'm afraid he's the right
person for the right job, and that was Michigan. I don't think he'd want to
be anyplace else, either.
So, my top five (I like this thread!):
1. Ron Mason, MSU
2. Jeff Jackson, Lake State (you could call him a Mason disciple)
3. George Gwozdecky, Denver (best coaching bloodlines in college hockey:
Mason and Bob Johnson)
4. Don Lucia, Colorado College (nice track record)
5. Shawn Walsh, Maine (another Mason disciple in most aspects)
6. Newell Brown, Red Wings organization (yet another Mason man)

Name your top 5, in order, current college coaches (Shawn Walsh included)
who you would try to hire away from
their current school to lead your program. You want to win the NCAA
tournament as soon as possible. Top 5 -- in order
 -- who're your dream coaches?

p.s. I'll start the debate by naming my 5: Jackson of LSSU, Lucia of CC,
Berenson of Mich, Woog of Minn, and Gwozdecky of DU
