In five Ivy League games this year (I don't have Yale's overall
stats), Emmons has 5 goals, 2 assists and 37 penalty minutes (ECAC
counts the game misconduct as 10 minutes). Yale has 10 goals in
those five games. After two periods against Harvard, Emmons was the
only Yale player on the scoresheet - two goals, four penalties. In
the tradition of Steve Martins, I suspect that many of Emmons penalties
are of the retaliatory nature because he attracts a fair amount of
attention (although he never scored more than 5 goals in a season
prior to this year). He is also a big, strong young man who hits a little
bit harder than ECAC refs prefer (see Ryan Mulhern at Brown or even
Mike Grier at BU for a similar situation). I guess the upshot is that you
can be sure something will happen when Emmons is on the ice.
