Long before Lake Superior State's success, Michigan Tech under the late John
MacInnes was the little school that could.
 ----------
Lake State's enrollment is 3,500 in a town of 16,000. We are a long ways
from anywhere (which is how most Yoopers like it)
The U.P. is a hockey hotbed and Laker hockey has obviously been
successful with 5 national championships (2 NAIA 1972 under Ron Mason &
74 with Rick Comely; 3 NCAA). The Lakers were immediate hit with NAIA
runner-up finishes from '68 through '70.
Aren't several of the top hockey schools smaller (not many are public
however) CC, etc.
