Comments:
The UIC Flames go into the winter break at .500 overall and over .500 in
the CCHA. This is the first time they have been in this position in
years. Tonight's game was a non-conference game, and it seemed that the
team did not play with the same intensity tonight as they did last night
against conference opponent Miami (UIC 3, Miami 1). UIC goalie, Adam
Lord, did not have his best outing. UIC came out flat at the beginning
of the second period, giving up 2 quick goals. However, UIC suddenly
picked up the pace and scored 5 unanswered goals (4 in the second and 1
in the third).
A very pleasant surprise were the 2 power play goals UIC had to start the
game. Overall, UIC was 2 for 3 on the power play. Prior to today's
game, UIC was 4 for 74 (5.4%) on the power play. Today's effort brings
them up to 7.8%.

Regarding yesterday's game, Paul Spencer played an outstanding game in
goal for UIC, bringing his record to 4-4-1. He received the #1 selection
for star of the game (Mike Peron and Chris MacDonald were the #2 & #3
stars). Overlooked for star of the game was defensman Rob Mottau, who
played a brilliant game both on offense and defense including a goal.
UIC held Miami scoreless until 15:47 of the third period. For the game,
the shots on goal were even at 27.
Note: Miami's Pat Schutte suffered a broken ankle and is out
indefinitely.
