Saw a post the other day from Steve Klein about the flux of Canadians
receiving American college scholarships and spending taxpayers money.
Maybe Steve Forbes should be informed of this. The point is, in other
Division I sports (baskeball, football, volleyball), there is a common
practice to award out-of-state scholarships to keep those big football
factories racking up wins. A state supported school receives the bulk
of its TAX money from the state. Out-of-state scholarships cost double.
College hockey's recruiting of Canadian players is no different from
what goes on in other Division I sports. Besides, its their national
sport and we all owe them a big thank you for giving us something to
occypy our lives of quiet desperation (sic). And Steve, I remember you
hanging on every goal when you were covering Michigan State when you
guys played Ferris. Sometimes, our Michigan-bred lineup of Bulldogs
spoiled the day for the International-look Spartans.
