Hello,

As many of you saw in an earlier post by Mike, J.P. McKersie was in a bad
accident last night. Since all of my information is second-hand, I am only
going to report on what I have heard from more than one source. I'm sure there
are more details, I've heard some different things from some different people
that I'm leaving out if only one person said it and no one else mentioned it.

As best as I know it:

Last night at about 3 AM, J.P. was riding his bike home from work when he was
hit by a car/vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet, and his skull was
fractured. It is not clear to me whether he was in a coma or just unconscious
for a while (different reports), but he apparently had a contusion on his brain
which required hours of emergency surgery.

At last report, he had regained consciousness and was listed in stable
condition. When visited by friends, however, his eyes were open but he was not
aware of them. The players who visited him appear to be extremely shook-up
and upset by seeing him in his present state.

Nobody right now is concerned over whether he'll return to hockey. Everyone
appears to be extremely worried just about him.

Speculation in the stands at the Pro-Am's tonight, however, was not over
whether or not he'll return by next year, but if he'll play hockey again.
(After the obvious hope that he'll just be "O.K."

This is what I have heard right now. Again, all of the info is second-hand,
so a detail or two may be wrong, but most was heard from at least 3 sources.

Since the college hockey content is such that he will obviously not be able
to play this year, I will not update the list publicly again (unless it is to
announce a return or retirement) on this issue. If any specific people would
like information if I find it (anyone from Wisconsin who went to school with
him or something), let me know privately.

Thank you and let's hope everything works out.

Tony
