I would generally agree that with an automatic NCAA bid assured, a coach might
be wise not to take any great chances in the league tournament. However, in th
e case of my beloved Bears I can't agree. As much as I love Brown, I must admi
t that the chances of Brown winning the NCAA tournament, regardless of what coac
h Gaudet does, are very slim. However, our chances of winning the ECAC tourny-
-something Brown has NEVER done--aren't that bad.
After two years of making the journey to Lake Placid only to be frustrated, I w
ould love nothing more than to see Brown grab the ECAC. Further, while a bid t
o the NCAA's might be assured by the regular season title, NCAA seeding is not.
An ECAC tournament victory would probably net Brown a position high enough so t
hat our NCAA regional match would be in Worcester, Mass., instead of out
West. I would love to actually SEE a Brown NCAA tournament game, so I have to
hope it happens.
As for the Band Wars...I've personally found the RPI band to be totally obnoxio
us during games, but then again, so am I. Just let it go. We didn't lose
because of RPI's band, and we certainly never win because of ours. I understan
d the frustration of Brown's band leader, I feel the same way when trying to st
art pro-Brown cheers atawawy games; but that's just the nature of the beast.
