The battle of the 'Bulldogs' will take place this weekend
(Oct.13-14) as the Ferris State University hockey team hopes to continue
on the winning path as the Bulldogs venture to Duluth, Minn., to take on
the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in a two-game non-conference
set. Opening face-off for Friday's (Oct.13) encounter is scheduled for
7:35 p.m. Saturday October 14 rematch is slated for 7:05 p.m. Both
contests will be staged at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention
Center (5,438).

Ferris State is 1-0-0 overall and 0-0-0 in the Central Collegiate H
Hockey Association after registering a 9-0 non-conference home victory o
ver Laurentian University of Sudbury, Ont., last Thursday (Oct.5) in Big
Rapids, Mich. Last season, Ferris finished 12-20-4 overall and 9-14-4 (6
th,tie) in CCHA action. Minnesota-Duluth, which opens its 1995-96 campai
gn this weekend, finished 16-18-4 overall and 13-15-4 97th) in the Weste
rn Collegiate Hockey Association last season.

Ferris State is coached by Bob Daniels (Michigan State, 1982), This
is his fourth season, 48-59.9 (.453) His record is 0-0 against Minnesot
a-Duluth. Minnesota-Duluth is coached by Mike Sertich (Minnesota-Duluth,
1969), and this year is his 15th season as coach, 269-229-33 (.538)-1-0
vs. Ferris.

Coach Daniels says about the Minnesota-Duluth series: "We're excite
ed about playing a well-regared team like Minnesota-Duluth and I believe
it's going to be a competitive series. Obviously, this will be a much bi
grey test for out guys than the Laurentian game. We're going to work on
refining our systems and concentrate on playing at a more consistent lev
el."

Ferris seven power play goals against Laurentian set new school sing
le game record. The previous mark was six versus Loyola (Ill.) in a 16-0
triumph on 2/11/78...The Bulldogs, who totalled 52 shots on goal in the
game, had 18 shots on net in both the first and third periods... FSU's s
ix goals in the third period versus Laurentian was just one shy of tying
the school record for most goals in the third period. A school's best se
ven goals occurred against three teams- Lewis 91/15/77), Chicago State (
11/11/77) and Michigan (1/4/85) ... Head coach Bob Daniels is just two v
intories away of recording his 50th career coaching win... Brett Colborn
e's two-goal performance in the Laurentian game moves him to within a go
al of matching his three-goal output of last season.

Ferris continues non-league play on the road, venturing to the Uppe
r Peninsula to take on a pair of WCHA teams as part of the annual Mackin
ac Cup Series. The Bulldogs square off against Michigan TEch University
Friday, Oct. 20, in a 7;35 p.m. (EST) contest at Houghton, Mich. Followi
nt that contest, FSU takes on Northern Michigan University Saturday, Oct
. 21, at Marquette, Mich. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EDT). Afte
r those two road outings, the Bulldogs return home the following weekend
(Oct. 27-28) to host the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and Michigan Sta
te University. Starting times for both CCHA contests are 7 p.m. (EDT) at
FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
