With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the Post-
Season Tournament contests. For Contest #2, in which all rounds are
scored the same, we have a tie for first place. The tiebreaker was to
be the number of individual conference contests won, but they won one
each -- so without further ado, Contest #2 results in a tie overall
between...
Nick Markham and Matt Sullivan
who each had 36 points, five ahead of runners-up Andy Weise and Mark Lewin.
As for the individual conference winners...
First place in the ECACHL went to Matt Sullivan with 11.
Craig Powers finished atop Hockey East with six points.
Mark Lewin's 10 points were enough to win the CCHA race.
Jim Dixon, Tony Buffa, and Matt Sullivan topped the WCHA with eight points
each. The first tie-breaker, championship game score, gave the title to
Jim, who forecast the score perfectly.
The Atlantic Hockey title went to Nick Markham with seven points.
From last week's update, Jim Dixon won the CHA race in a tiebreaker, with
two points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 4-2) to be 3-1,
you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get five points;
and if you picked 5-4, you would get three points. Obviously, the lower
the point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 3-2.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 5-4.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.
