With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #2, in which all rounds are
scored the same, the overall winner is...
Nathan Hampton
with 36 points, finishing one ahead of runners-up William Sangrey and Nick
Markham.
As for the individual conference winners...
Nick Markham, Wayne Smith, Deron Treadwell, and Tony Buffa all finished
tied for first in the ECAC with nine points each. Nick and Wayne remained
tied after the first tiebreaker (championship game score), but the second
(total goals scored in the entire tournament) gave Nick the title by two
points.
Hockey East saw a three-way tie among Charlie Shub, Ross Belfiori, and Jay
Punwar, each with seven points. Charlie took the first tiebreaker and the
top spot.
The CCHA race went to Nathan Hampton, who had 11 points.
In the WCHA, a mere five points by William Sangrey was good enough to take
first place.
Mark Lewin and Jim Dixon tied for the top spot in Atlantic Hockey with six
points each, with Mark winning the first tiebreaker.
From last week's update, William Krebs won the CHA race in a tiebreaker,
with five points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (painfully, I mean actually,
6-2) to be 5-3, you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get
six points; and if you picked 3-2, you would get three points. Obviously,
the lower the point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 6-2, and the total goals
scored in the tournament was 130.
For Hockey East, the championship game score was 2-1.
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 1-0.
For Atlantic Hockey, the championship game score was 5-2.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 4-2.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.
