providence college's therien led all rookie defensemen

maine-orono's kariya was the only rookie to lead his
team in scoring during the reg season. kariya finished
2nd to forsberg in rookie scoring with 39 pts (18g, 21a).
carey and kariya are finalists (along with forsberg) for
the calder memorial trophy.
