ORONO, Maine -- Saturday night's meeting between the University
of Maine and Boston University lived up to expectations once
more as the two teams tied 5-5 at Maine's Harold Alfond Sports
Arena. BU outshot Maine 2-1 in the shootout to pick up three
points in the Hockey East standings, while Maine picked up two
points of its own for the tie.

In four meetings this season, Maine has won two games (6-5,
6-5) with BU winning two shootouts. Maine's first win against
BU was in a non-conference game at last weekend's Great
Western Freezeout.

The Terriers opened the scoring in the first when
Prendergast, who was left alone in front of the crease, scored
through through the five-hole. However, Maine's Scott Parmentier
answered at 7:12 with a breakaway goal after catching BU on a
line change. Fifteen seconds later Maine scored again with
Shawn Wansborough doing the honors to make it 2-1 Black Bears.
Dan Shermerhorn closed out the scoring in the first period at
14:16 to give the Bears a 3-2 edge after Mike Sylvia tied the
score for the Terriers a little more than two minutes earlier.

After the first intermission, Jay Pandolfo tied the game 43
seconds into the second period, continuing the Terriers'
barrage of shots on goal. The Terriers had outshot the Bears
16-7 in the first period.

The Black Bears evened things up a bit by outshooting the
Terriers 8-7 unofficially in the period, with Jacque
Rodrigue and Parmentier scoring goals to give Maine a 5-3
lead heading into the third period.

The Terriers came back with goals by Bob Lachance and Mike
Grier within the third period's first six minutes to set the
stage for a scoreless overtime and a shootout, which the
Terriers won 2-1.

Maine's overall record is 11-0-4, with a 6-0-4 Hockey East
record. BU is 7-3-3 overall and 4-2-3 in HE.
