Brown defeated Harvard tonight 4-3 in the season opener for both teams.
Third line center Tony Martino scored two goals and Ryan Mulhern and Scott
Humber each scored for the Bears. Brown goalie Mike Parsons was decent but
not exceptional, but the Bear defense played extremely well. Harvard looked
sloppy and uncoordinated all night, except for a stretch in the second period
when Brown's first line forward Brian Jardine was out on a 10-minute game
misconduct.
Brown has a couple exciting freshmen, including forward Damian Prescott and
defenseman Jimmy Andersen. Prescott has a wicked slapshot and Anderson is
a tough checker. Junior Ryan Mulhern and sophomore Marty Clapton showed
a lot of offensive spark for the Bears.
With all the talk about Harvard being overrated, it seems that possibly
Brown has been underrated. I believe that Brown is a serious contender
for the ECAC this year, along with Harvard and Clarkson.
