I guess it's safe to disclose this now.
Holding back the individual players from appearing capable, losing the
starting goalie for the rest of the year in the last regular season
weekend, taking penalties in the final minutes of the Camp Randall
Classic to let Wisconsin catch up and tie the season series, wallowing
around 20th in the PWR most of the season, and finishing 7th in the
conference were all part of a ploy to create false confidence among
post-season opponents so the Wolverines twentieth straight qualification
for the NCAA Tournament would seem more interesting (and to tease the
football team for awhile with a false show of solidarity). Since then,
in the CCHA Tournament . . .
In Sault St. Marie, Preliminary round:
Michigan 5, Lake Superior State 2
Michiagn 6, Lake Superior State 0
In East Lansing, Quarter-finals:
Michigan 5, Michigan State 1
Michigan 5, Michigan State 3
In the Joe Louis Arena:
CCHA Semi-final: Michigan 5, Miami 2
CCHA Championship: Michigan 2, Northern Michigan 1
CCHA TOURNAMENT MVP: Michigan Goalie SHAWN HUNWICK
... (but he's only a 2nd-stringer on the Wolverine team)
