As usual, here are a few notes on the Elmira game:
Elmira 6, RIT 4
Elmira completed a season sweep of the Tigers with this win and in the
process dealt a serious blow to RIT's hopes of getting a berth in the
ECAC West playoffs. The victory gave the Soaring Eagles a 20-win
season for the third consecutive year.
Greg Moore put the Eagles on the board at 2:50 of the first period, but
RIT's Kyle O'Brien answered at the 10:41 mark. Joe Spinelli stole an
RIT clearing pass and beat Tiger goaltender Derrick Barnett at 16:35 of
the first, but RIT's Scott MacNair and Greg Jarvis each netted a goal
in the final three minutes to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. RIT had only
two shots on goal in the second period (to Elmira's 16), but the first
one resulted in another score, as Jay Murphy took a feed from Mike
Smith and slapped the puck past Elmira goaltender Dave Laudato at the
1:41 mark. Bernie Cassell brought the Soaring Eagles back to within
one at 11:56 of the second with his 40th goal of the season, tying the
Elmira record that Joe Spinelli set last year.
Barnett, RIT's freshman goaltender, was having a terrific game, but
Elmira's relentless attack finally got to him in the third period.
Scott Williams tied the score at 4:27 of the third with just his second
goal of the season, and then Robb Wilson's slapper from the point got
past Barnett for the game-winner at the 12:14 mark. Moore iced it for
the Soaring Eagles with 38 seconds to go. Barnett finished the game
with 36 saves, while Laudato had 16. Tom O'Brien went between the
pipes for Elmira for the last eleven seconds of the game and did not
face a shot.

LET'S GO RED!!
"I'm not allowed to say anything about the officiating, even if it's bad. I'm
not allowed to talk about the officiating, even if it's pathetic."
-- BU head coach Jack Parker after the Feb. 14th game between BU and Lowell,
in which the officiating did leave a little to be desired
