Perhaps they're hung up on hockey players whose last name starts with 'S' that
go to play for the Gophers. :-)
According to UMD's website, one third of their student body comes from the Twin
Cities, only one quarter from northeastern Minnesota. Chances are that a
goodly portion of those berating Spehar for "betraying" them are Twin Cities
residents themselves.
