After being swept early in the season by a tough Wisconsin team,
combined with the loss on Saturday night, the cats were out to win.
After first period goals by Scott Smith and Brent Riplinger, the NMU
Wildcats set the pace for the reamainder of the contest. From here they
never seemed to look back. Wisconsin kept the contest close by making
the score 2-1 but Senior Joe Frederick scored his 13th career
shorthanded goal to put NMU back up by two. But the Badgers would not
quit with a third period goal to bring the score back within one. but
NMU's Geoff Simpson responded with two quick goals to make the final NMU
5, Wisconsin 2.
Joe Frederick's shorthanded goal tied the WCHA record for career
shorthanded goals (13) and at hte rate he is going, he is sure to break
this record shortly.
