MEN'S HOCKEY BLANKED BY HARVARD
Senior netminder Dov Grumet-Morris posts 32 saves in 3-0 shutout
Senior Dov Grumet-Morris made 32 saves and junior Charlie Johnson scored
two goals to lead Harvard University to a 3-0 win over Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in an ECAC Hockey League Division I men's
hockey game at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. With the victory, the
tenth-ranked Crimson improves to 15-6-2 overall and 12-4-1 in the
ECACHL. They remain in second place in the standings. Rensselaer falls to
12-17-2 and 4-12-1, remaining in a tenth place tie with Princeton.
The Crimson got on the board first with a Johnson power play goal at the
15:04 mark. Dylan Reese, who fed the puck across the crease, earned the
first assist and Kevin Du the second. Harvard held a 1-0 lead after the
first period despite being outshot 12-4.
Harvard doubled its lead on Johnson's second goal of the night and fifth of
the season when he collected a Jon Pelle pass and slipped the puck past
netminder Andrew Martin. Pelle, who stole the puck at the half-boards,
earned the only assist on the goal, which came at 11:54 of the second period.
The Crimson made it 3-0 at 6:58 of the third period when Dave Watters took
a Tom Cavanagh pass from behind the net and scored his fourth of the
season. Andrew Lederman also picked up a helper on the play.
Grumet-Morris finished with 12 saves in the first period, eight in the
second and 12 more in the third period to improve to 13-5-2. Martin
stopped 13 shots in the loss. He is now 7-12-1.
Rensselaer is back in action on Saturday night when they host Brown
University in the 28th Annual Big Red Freakout! beginning at 7pm. The
Crimson are back on the ice on Monday when they face Boston College in the
third place game of the Beanpot Tournament at the FleetCenter. That game
will begin at 5pm.
