COMMENTS:

A boisterous crowd enjoyed Cornell's annual Red & White battle, featuring a
cleaner, brighter Lynah Rink, a double bill of intermission mites hockey,
and Steve Wilson's spontaneous (and hilarious) send-up of the classic
penalty shot from "Youngblood". We saw surprisingly well-coordinated hockey
from the 18 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders. Some random
observations:

* All three goaltenders played well, with heretofore unknown #3 netminder
Nathan Hicks putting on a quite credible performance.

* Vinnie Auger seemed to be playing with the ease and grace we used to take
for granted before his injuries, and that was excellent to see.

* Among some solid "low profile" performances: Jeff Oates, Frank Kovac,
walk-on (likely never to be seen again but what the hell) Ari Chopra.

* UIC junior transfer Darren Tymchyshyn ("Tim-SHISH-in") could be a
significant pick up -- he certainly played very well throughout the evening.

* The "freshman line" of Ryan Moynihan, Doug Stienstra, and Levi Clegg may
not be ready for Prime Time just yet, but man did they seem to be having fun.

Actually, *everybody* was having fun, and the result was solid, entertaining
hockey. The Big Red turn it up one notch for their first exhibition test
against the Polish National Team this coming Wednesday.

My Three Stars of the Game

#3 Vinnie Auger
#2 Darren Tymchyshyn
