University of Buffalo and Buffalo State I believe. It took a long time
for a New England transplant like me to figure that one out.

I agree.
The first thing that came to mind when I read the original post was
Clarkson and Potsdam College both play at the D-1 level in a town of
5000 (10000 with students) and add SLU just 10 or 11 miles down the
road. That would be an over staturation in a remote area of Northern New
York.
