At the Tucson Convention Center, a.k.a. "Madhouse on Main"
February 26, 1994
UA 3 3 3 : 9
ASU 0 2 1 : 3
After this weekend's play, the IceDevils of Arizona State University will
simply have to wait until next year for the opportunity to break the University
of Arizona IceCats' *54* game UA-ASU winning streak. This weekend's series
against ASU served as a final tune-up for the IceCats before National
Tournament play begins Wednesday.
UA-ASU
I did not attend Saturday's (final home) game, but the sellout crowd of 7000+
said goodbye to UA's 4 graduating seniors. They also were treated to a rout
of the IceCats' archrivals. Unlike the previous night, UA immediately asserted
itself by going on top early 3-0 in the first period. When ASU crept back with
2 goals in the second, Arizona answered with 3 goals (2 scored 42 seconds
apart). Even Dennis Hands, the IceCats goalie, picked up an assist on a
breakaway goal late in the second. The IceCats did not stop there as three
more times the puck reached the back of the net.

Some comments from the previous weekend...
The Golden Gophers gave the IceCats a wake-up call by splitting the series at
Tucson. While the IceCats had their way with the Gophers Friday night, the
Gophers called Saturday night their own, winning 5-2. Listening to part of
the radio broadcast, it sounded like the UA came out extremely flat. I don't
know what it is exactly but it seems that after blowing out a team Friday night
Saturday's games have been much closer for the IceCats. I have to say that it
was nice seeing skaters in Minnesota colors on the ice...
