Over the weekend Clarkson lost two games that they should have won on
paper. This will ruin their national ranking and reek havoc with
Keith's computer rank. As it did: Clarkson #2=>#14 (or so), Yale and
Brown from the forties (out of 44) to the twenties.

Friday Night: BROWN 5, Clarkson 2
Ths game saw a sluggish first period with the two teams really
skating slowly and making errant passes. Brown was able to play a
little better. On their first power play Beck of Brown scored @ 11:47
from O'Brien. With Clarkson still skating slowly and having trouble
clearing their zone as well as not fore-checking, Beck scored from
Bommer @ 14:01. Bommer is from Canton, NY and his dad teaches at
Clarkson. Clarkson had a goal called back in the period. For some
reason, the goal had trouble staying on the moorings. The Brown goal
would come off the magnets 5 times in the game and would cost
Clarkson 2 goals. Both of which showed to be legitimate in the tapes of
the game. The net came off three times in the first. Currie faced 14
shots in the first while Finch for Brown stopped 10, coming up big
several times.
Finch came up big in the second period stopping 14 shots. Most of
them being real good scoring opportunities. I guess that he's improved
since the start of the season. The Brown net came off its moorings
again in this perood and cost Clarkson its second goal. Brown would
make it 3-0 @ 10:12 when King scored from Brewer. Clarkson would wait
until 18:33 until finally get a recorded goal when Kozak scored unassisted
during a 2 on 0 breakaway with M. Green. Currie was replaced by Rogles
in this period to wake the team up. He would make 8 saves.
Clarkson came out strong in the third period but Brown got a break
with a give-away and King scored again @ :50 from Jones. Clarkson still
had some hope when Torrey came right back and scored @ 1:20 after
picking up a loose rebound from a shot by Conroy. Rogles stopped a slap
shot in the period with his cage that would cut his forehead and require
stitches. Currie and Rogles combined to stop 9
shots before Currie was pulled for an extra skater @ 17:01. Finch again
stymied the 45% Clarkson pp by holding solid during two pp. The Brown
and Clarkson nets each came off the moorings once in this period. Ross
would score an empty net goal @ 18:02 to make it 5-2.
Clarkson was hurt by the two goals being called back by Ref
McDonough and not being able to score on the pp, which they corrected
the next night.

Saturday Night: YALE 7, Clarkson 4
Again Clarkson would never really be in the game and lost it big in
the first period, after which the score was 4-1. Suprisingly Rogles
started in goal with his stitches. However he had troubles directing
rebounds away from Yale players and would let in 3 goals before Currie
came in. LaRue scored from Duffy @ 7:27. He had been all alone in
front of the net and put the rebound in behind Rogles. With the
forwards skating real hard, Sather of Yale picked up a crossing pass on
the right wing and score @ 8:48. Scott Thomas of Clarkson, playing with
an injured right wrist scored the next goal on the pp @ 9:49. Dubinsky
slid a pass out of the Clarkson zone to Cassleman who skated in with
Thomas. Cassleman faked the shot and then passed it to Thomas. Yale
would score twice more: Blazer @ 10:15 and Sather@ 12:09. Shots: Yale
13, Clarkson 8.
Clarkson came out strong in the second period and with the help of 4
pp score 2 more goals to make it 4-3 Yale. LeTourneau really kept
Clarkson from tieing the game and going ahead by making 6 quality saves
on 8 shots. In contrast Currie stopped all 4 shots. On the back half
of a pp, Cassleman scored with a quick wrist shot @ :14. This was
similar to the previous goal. Cassleman shot instead of passing to
Thomas. The play started in the Clarkson zone and Dave Tretowicz and
Henrich got assists. In the second of two almost back to back pp, Hugo
Belanger scored on a good passing play @ 13:49 from Torrey and M. Green.
Ref Murphy had to call the 4 penalties in the period because Yale was
taking them to stop almost certain goals. Yale had a goal called back
during the pp after the puck was kicked into the net. Mid-way through
the second period Clarkson's captain and defenseman Tretowicz moved up
to left wing as Coach Morris tried to jostle the lines and get something
going.
Yale stopped the come back @ 6:20 when Faust shoved the puck under
Currie just as a penalized Clarkson player was returning. This time the
ref was able to tell that the puck was across the goal line before the
net came off of the magnets. With Clarkson pressing deep on the pp,
Kaufman of Yale picked up the puck at his own blue line after a Clarkson
miscue and skate in and score on Currie @ 12:50. Down 2 goals yet
again, Currie was pulled @ 2:30. Clarkson held the puck in the Yale
zone and took several shots before Yale had to drag a Clarkson player
down in defense. So Clarkson was 6 on 4 with 24 seconds left. However,
Yale cleared the zone and as Clarkson came out in front of their own net
an errant Clarkson pass bounced off of a Clarkson skate into their own
goal @ 19:42. Shots, Clarkson 13, Yale 8.

What's going on? Clarkson has been slumping since the end of the
second period of the Cornell game. Including that game they are 1-3-1.
The one win was a bad effort too against UNH. They've been playing
without Dave Trombley, Eddie Sabo only played the SLU game. Hopefully
Thomas isn't hurt too bad. The last three games and losses have been on
the road and Clarkson has two more ECAC road games ( Princeton and Army)
before the Dexter Tourny @ Orono. They'll need a good effort to beat
Princeton who beat them twice last year and beat Harvard this year, who
mushed Cornell. We'll have to wait and keep our fingers crossed.
