The question is being tossed around about grad students on teams
and/or easy courses for hockey teams. Well here is my 2 cents worth.
At Slu, there are two types of hockey players; those that are
intelligent and there for the education and those who want a free ride.
Daniel Lappierre stayed at SLU despite offers of big bucks from
the Blues because he wanted his degree and education. My theory is
that his father, Jacques (go Canadians!) taught him the importance
of a good education. We have a joke that the economics major is
only for hockey players, but at least these course teach them how
to control their future incomes and how to be responsible business
men. We also have people like Mike Allain, a future all-American
who take the hardest courses available here (biology, o-chem., etc.).
These players take their future very seriously. Ask Les Kuntar who
wanted his degree as well, even though he is now doing awesome in
the AHL. He waited till after graduation to try out for the Albert-
ville team.
Then we have what I term the idiots. The players who only go to
college for several reasons, other than to get an education.
