The Penn State Icers continued their march toward the ACHA National Title with
a 6-1 victory over the #4 Michigan-Dearborn Wolves this afternoon in Fargo, ND.
Penn State got on the board midway through the first as Scott Mangene sent
a slapshot past Wolves netminder Joe Aho on a 5-on-3 power play. The Icers
would score twice more on the power play in the next 2:05 as the Wolves shot
themselves in the feet (paws?) with numerous cheap penalties in the first
period, including a slash to Aho, and a 10-minute misconduct to Jeff
Hubenschmidt, their leading scorer. Penn State totally dominated this game,
and the Wolves only got on the board at the 20-minute mark of the third as
Icer goalie John Gray got a jump on the post-game celebration. The Icers
move to 32-0-0 on the season, and 2-0-0 in their bracket. The Wolves fall
to 1-1-0 in the bracket. John Gray picked up the win, his 27th of the season.

Other results in Bracket A:
Wed, Mar. 3: Michigan-Dearborn 10, Iowa State 2...Michigan-Dearborn gained
a bit of revenge over the ISU Cyclones, as it was the Cyclones who defeated
the Wolves 5-3 in last year's ACHA Championship...
Thur, Mar. 4: Iowa State 5, Colorado 3...Apparently there was a bit of
controversy over the disqualification of one player from each team after a
collision...both teams filed complaints...a hearing on this matter has been
scheduled for tomorrow...

So, with a win or tie against Iowa State, the Penn State Icers will clinch
a championship-game spot. The first tie-breaker is either head-to-head record
or goal differential, but in either case UMD currently has the edge on Iowa
State for the Consolation Game...Colorado can not make it to the championship
game, but could get the consolation if they beat UMD and Penn State beats ISU
(maybe, although looking at this again I think Colorado might have no chance...
why can't we have a normal tournament? :^)
Bracket B Results: Wed. Mar 3: Arizona 7, E. Michigan 3
No result from NoDak St. vs Illinois
(but we think NDSU won...)
Thur Mar 4: Both games had yet to be played when Penn
State's game ended.
Next game for the Icers: vs. #5 Iowa State, 5 PM EST.
