Thanks to Geoff Howell for posting info on how to obtain
national statistics. I'll add that, unless they've changed
the name, the group that calculates them is UPSIDA.
(Upper Peninsula Sports Information Directors Association
...or...of America...I never remember what the A stands for.)
UPSIDA does a damn good job compiling this info. One
thing I'm not sure of is which games are included/excluded.
That last I knew, I thought they included all non-exhibition
games, regardless of whether the opponent was Div I, Div II-III
or Canadian.
For the record, Brian Holzinger has 30-30-60 in 31 games,
which, the last time I checked, is less than the 1.00 goals per
game that Geoff mentions. Not included in Zinger's overall
numbers are 3-4--7 in 2 wins at the Cross/Border Challenge
in Toronto...both recorded as exhibitions.
Geoff also mentions that you could compile the stats from
the boxscores in Drop the Puck. Highly unlikely. Thumbs
up to DtP for attempting to pack all of that factual info (boxes
and stats) as well as feature articles into a weekly publication,
but (still) thumbs down on their numerical accuracy.
Btw...all publications, including the UPSIDA numbers, contain
numerical errors at times, but most have a much better track
record than DtP when it come to reporting stats.
