I want to add one thing to my comments on publications this morning.
I recommended Drop the Puck's yearbook, but didn't recommend
DtP's weekly publication...mentioning the student writers and incorrect
stats. The stats thing really irked me, but the student comment wasn't
a particularly fair criticism. I recognized one of DtP's primary writers
from late last season as being from The Michigan Daily. Since I'm
subjected to the drivel of the Daily all season, the last thing I wanted
to see was one of these bozos in a national publication. Of course,
people outside of the Ann Arbor area probably had no idea who he
was and may not have even minded him. [Some may have, gasp,
even liked his work. :-]
So, I still think that DtP's yearbook is an asset and their weekly needs
to improve...but if you're thinking of subscribing, don't hold my comment
on student writers against them.
Personally, I hope DtP improves and becomes a smash hit. Hockey-L
is fantastic, but there is plenty of room for a good, weekly college
hockey publication to flourish. Here's hoping that they fill that void.
