Although my hockey career didnt turn out quite as rosy as Craig's I
agree with his points... most of the time, the coaching staff will
know who every single player (at least those even worth looking at) is
at tryouts / captain's practices.
In my case, I informed the school I was interested, eventually
enrolled, went on an overnight visit, met briefly with coaches, stayed
at the hockey fraternity, etc.... That was about the extent of
interest, although I did notify them of several games I would be
playing in locally, I dont THINK they ever attended!
So think a TRUE walk on, where the coaching staff has no idea who the
person is, or where they came from is extremely rare.
If you are the least bit interested... I ended up with 3 yrs. of JV
expereience, teetering on a varsity appearance which never happened...
and a year of engineering co-op expereince, which I think was the
right career move!
