At least until recently, students could get into home games at
Merrimack for free. All you had to do was show up at the ticket
office with an ID before the day of the game. That makes it
surprising that Merrimack hasn't had more students at their games than
they have had; I think a big part of it is that this policy wasn't
well publicized. All they had to do was send a note to all students
along with, perhaps, a complimentary ticket for an early season game.
Since the rink seats 3,617 and enrollment is about 2,000, and average
home attendance is about 1,000, this would have been a simple way to
generate more on-campus interest in the games.
At many of the HE rinks, it seems that you can get in for about $2-3
just by presenting a valid student ID from any school.
