It's been a tumultuous season on hockey-l this year. This can be seen in some
of the comments about our beloved Gophers:

It was NOT Charlie Shub who wrote:
>does
>this make the team feel so special that all or most of the players on
>the University of Minnesota are from the state. I bet when they look at
>the WCHA league standing they don't feel so special.

NOR was it his friend (;-)) Rich Vehlow who wrote:
> I'm writing to say that Minnesota should recruit out of state. I
>agree totally with the message from {NOT Charlie Shub}. Unless Minnesota
>wants to remain a last place team, they had better wise up.

And it was NOT Heather Machnik who wrote:
>Minnesota sure looked beatable after
>the SCSU-Minn WCHA Championship Game. They may have been beaten if
>not for Lowell having played the night before.

And it was NOT Dwayne Roloson (or even Steve Twombly, which also would have been
understandable) who made any of these puzzling ;-) comments about how Rollie
managed to be VERY impressive in the game, although the Gophers weren't playing
well against him:
>Minnesota - Lowell overtime: "Molson Hockey Night in Hell" is more like it.
Clash
>of the Titans, this wasn't. Rollie played out of his mind,
{comments edited for brevity}
>...if the same Gophers I saw last night show
>up on Thursday, I like BU's chances!

>I was waiting for Minnesota to do something to impress
>me. Well, they never did. Lowell appeared to be playing a pretty controlled
>game
{comments edited for brevity}
>now I know why Roloson wasd
>was HE's Golatender of the Year. As with Northeastern, I was very impressed
>with the Chiefs, who appear to have a very bright future ahead of them.

And it was NOT J. P. McKersie (or even the Former Ogre) who made these comments
after he had to stop 14 of 15 Minnesota shots in the second period of the NC$$
semifinal:
>Not going to report much about this game. It was boring. Minnesota, except
>for a momentary flurry in the first 8 minutes of the second period, never
>was in the game.

>Sorry Minnesota fans, but this Minnesota team did not belong among the Final
>Four. The geniuses in the NC$$ decided to give you "arguably" the easiest
>bracket looking for a little financial gain at St. Paul. BU was a far superior
team.

>since they couldn't give Minnesota a BYE to St.
>Paul, like they were able to place MSU and RPI at home, they seemed to do there
>best to ensure that they had a good chance to get there.

>Minnesota was definitely a top twelve team, and since hindsight is 20-20, it
>seemed that they were outmanned in the final 4,

And in the final hockey-l poll, we could probably understand that some people
might want to rate Minnesota lower than Lowell, even though they badly outshot
them and pulled out the OT victory:
> 5. Mass Lowell 25-10-5 114 5 3-7
> 6. Minnesota 25-13-4 105 6 4-10

But there were apparently some people on the list who didn't even believe
Minnesota belonged in the top 15:
> Teams named on all responses: Lake Superior, Boston University,
> Harvard, Michigan, Mass Lowell, Wisconsin, Michigan State, New
> Hampshire, RPI

And the Eastern voters seemed to ignore the fact that Minnesota was 4-0 against
Wisconsin this year (sorry, Badger fans, we really don't mean to rub it in, but
obviously we haven't gloated about it enough if the Eastern voters put you above
us in the poll! ;-) ):
> Eastern responses: Western responses:
>
> 1. Lake Superior (2.5) 71.5 1. Lake Superior (5) 89
> 2. Boston University (2.5) 69.5 2. Boston University 80
> 3. Michigan 65 3. Harvard 76
> 4. Harvard 64 4. Michigan (1) 70
> 5. Mass Lowell 50 5. Mass Lowell 64
> 6. Wisconsin 45 6. Minnesota 62
> 7. Minnesota 43 7. Wisconsin 46

So, in view of this persistent "dissing" of our team on hockey-l this year, we
just have to let our feelings about the 1993-4 Minnesota Gophers be known.
While meaning no offense to the people who are quoted above, we have this to
say:

WWW WWW OOOO OOOO FFFFFFFF !!
 W W O O O O F !!
  W W O O O O F !!
   W W W O O O O FFFFF !!
    W W W W O O O O F !!
     W W W W O O O O F
      W W OOOO OOOO F !!

There. We feel better now.
