SCSU Men's Hockey Release 12/11/00
Upcoming Games:
    Dec. 15 - Alaska-Anchorage at #8 SCSU, 7:05 p.m. (CST)
    Dec. 16 - Alaska-Anchorage at #8 SCSU, 7:05 p.m. (CST)

UPCOMING GAMES: The #8 St. Cloud State menšs hockey team (11-4-1, 6-4-0
WCHA) will entertain the University of Alaska-Anchorage (5-8-1, 3-6-1 WCHA)
at 7:05 p.m. on Dec. 15, and at 7:05 p.m. on Dec. 16. The games will be
played at SCSUšs National Hockey Center (cap. 5,763). SCSU was ranked #8
in the last Division I hockey poll released on Dec. 4.

THE RESULTS: The Huskies snapped a three-game home losing streak with a big
5-0 win over Wisconsin on Dec. 9, at the NHC. The game was SCSUšs first
shutout of the season and the 8th career shutout for goalkeeper Scott Meyer.
Joe Motzko scored the first and game winning goal at 4:18 of the first
period with assists from Jon Cullen and Derek Eastman. Cullen added another
point in the second with a goal at 1:01 while Matt Hendricks, Tyler Arnason
and Mark Hartigan all scored goals in the third period to ice the game.
Meyer made 24 saves in the game as the Huskies outshot UW 45-24...SCSU
suffered a 3-1 loss at home against Wisconsin on Dec. 8. Tyler Arnason
scored his fifth goal of the season at 16:54 of the second period on the
power play with assists from Mark Hartigan and Jon Cullen. UW opened the
gamešs scoring at 10:40 of the first with a tally by Dany Heatley on the
power play. Matt Murray scored the game winner for UW at 19:21 of the first
period before Heatley scored again in the third period on the power play at
2:02. Scott Meyer posted 31 saves for SCSU in the game, while Graham
Melanson had 32 saves. UW outshot the Huskies 34-33.

FINAL 1999-2000 RECORD: In 1999-2000, the Huskies continued their tradition
of excellence with a 23-14-3 overall record and a 16-9-3 third place record
in the always rugged WCHA. The Huskies advanced to the Final Five of the
WCHA tournament last season, which included a 6-4 third place win over
Minnesota. The icing on the cake was a trip to the 2000 NCAA Division I
East Regional, and a number 12 ranking in the final Division I national
poll. The 23 wins ties a school record for most wins in a season. The
Huskies also had 23 wins during the 1997-98 campaign.

HEAD COACH: SCSU coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) in his 14th
season as head coach for the Huskies. He is the only coach that SCSU has
had since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-88. Dahl has a career
record of 240-237-38 at SCSU and a 20-year career coaching mark of
316-325-40. Dahl won his 300th career game on 2/19/00. In 1997-98, Dahl
was named the WCHA Coach of the Year. He has won more games than any SCSU
hockey coach. In 2000-01, Dahl will be assisted by Doc DelCastillo (SCSU,
1992) in his third season and first year coach Brad Willner (Lake Superior
State, 1995).

ALL-TIME RECORD: The Huskies and Coach Dahl both own a 240-237-38 record
since the program went Division I in 1987-88. This is the first season that
the Huskies have gone above .500 with their overall record since going
Division I...The Ferris State game on Oct. 13th was the 500th Division I
hockey game in the history of the program at SCSU. The game was also Dahlšs
500th as a coach at SCSU.

MR. ZERO: SCSU goalie Scott Meyer posted his 8th career shutout on Dec. 9,
with a 5-0 win over UW. Meyer had a school record seven shutouts last
season and owns the current team career shutout mark with eight. This was
Meyeršs first shutout in 2000-01. The last time Meyer beat UW was a 4-0
shutout last year at the NHC.

A SIX GAME ROLL: Jon Cullen has been on a roll with a point in the past six
games for SCSU. Over the weekend, Cullen had one assist on Dec. 8 and a
goal and an assist on Dec. 9. He currently has five goals and seven assists
this season and ranks fourth on the team in scoring. Not bad, considering
he only had one goal in the teamšs first 10 games.

MOVING UP ON THE CHARTS: Tyler Arnason ranks 26th in the all-time scoring
charts at SCSU with 92 career points (39g/53a), while Brandon Sampair is
28th with 89 points (40g/49a)...Sampair now ranks 10th in the Division I
charts at SCSU with 40 goals, while Arnason is 11th with 38 career
goals...Mark Hartigan is making a quick climb with 33 career goals (16th
place) and Nate DiCasmirro is tied for 23rd with 27 career goals ...for
assists, Arnason is 16th with 53 assists - only the 15th player in SCSU
history to gain over 50 assists. Sampair now has 49 assists and ranks 17th,
while Keith Anderson is next on the list with 43 assists (21st place).
DiCasmirrošs now has 35 career assists - 30th in the records...of note,
Arnason ranks 11th among SCSUšs Division I players for most career points
with 92. Sampair is ranked 13th among SCSUšs Division I players with 89
points. Jeff Saterdalen is the Huskiesš all-time scoring leader with 179
career points (78g/101a) from 1988-92...Arnason is 8 points away from SCSUšs
100-point club and would be the 24th player in team history to reach that
lofty plateau and the first since Sacha Molin, who had 102 points from
1995-98.

ROAD WARRIORS: On the road, SCSU has been tough with a 7-1 record -
compared to a 4-3-1 record at home this season. Last year, SCSU was 8-6-2 on
the road.

GREAT BEGINNINGS: The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team got off
to its best start in the history of the program at the Division I level this
year. Through five games, the Huskies charted a 4-0-1 record, stopped by a
3-1 loss to DU on Oct. 28. The previous best five-game start of 4-1 was
charted in 1996-97. The Huskiesš 3-1 start in the WCHA was the best
four-game start in team history and its overall record of 6-1-1 was the
teamšs best ever 8-game start at the Division I level. At 11-4-1, SCSU is
off to its best 16-game start and has won 11 games faster than any season in
team history. SCSUšs previous best record over 16 games was 10-4-2 in
1997-98.
