Clarkson gained its 1000th win in school history with a 9-1 rout of Yale
last night in Potsdam. The win was in only their 1563 (I think) game,
giving them 1000 wins faster than any school in NCAA history.
Clarkson's Marko Tuomainen got the only goal of the first period when
he took a centering pass from Claude Morin and ripped it through
Yale goalie Todd Sullivan. Clarkson made it 2-0 early when Todd White
took a pass from freshman Chris Clark and beat Sullivan. 10:20 into
the 2nd, Phil Lecavalier and Steve Palmer broke in on a 2-on-1 and
Lecavalier put a very weak wrist shot between the legs of Sullivan
for a power play marker. on Clarkson's next power play, there was
a scramble in front on which Sullivan made the initial save but
Clark poked home the rebound for his first collegiate goal.
Yale put in their backup goalie, whose name eludes me (goalie stats
weren't listed in the paper, oddly) and he promptly gave up a soft goal
just 10 seconds in. Off the opening faceoff, Palmer broke down the left
wing one-on-one and not more than a few strides from the goal line along
teh far boards, he shot one that someone found its way behind the Yale
netminder. Clarkson scored a total of 5 goals in the third period,
although Yale's Doyle broke Dan Murphy's shutout 8:53 in.
