Indeed it is. Martin, a junior, signed a three-year contract with
the Toronto Maple Leafs this week. His signing bonus, according
to the Bangor Daily News, is around $150,000. Toronto will pay for
the rest of Martin's education.
Martin, who will play this weekend for Toronto's AHL affiliate,
St. John's, Newfoundland, will have an opportunity to try out for
the U.S. Olympic team next year if he fails to make the Maple Leafs.
Martin, who is 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, turns 22 later this month. He
was a fourth round draft choice of the Leafs in 1989.
Martin said he plans to return to Maine in May to attend May Term
classes.
