I have been following the opinions on Minnesota recruiting and Laura wrote
"give the kids the best to play with and in circumstances that will prepare
them for the NHL". I agree that a school should recruit the best players for
their program; however, it is a shame that in many college sports it is a
training ground for the pros. I teach math here at Miami and have had several
athletes in my classes, including hockey players. I have always tried to
encourage them to get their education and to look at it as a great opportunity,
being that they usually have full scholarships. If they have a dream to play
in the pros, fine, but I try to tell them that when hockey is over, they still
have to have a life and most probably, a job!! I don't think preparation for
the pros should even be a consideration in college, but unfortunately, it can
be. Just my two cents/sense!
Also, can anyone tell me how the hockey discussion list poll is decided?
Not the particulars, just especially who votes and how. Thanks in advance.
