From the Minneapolis Star Tribune this morning an article on college hockey.

'U' TO FACE CHALLENGE vs. CCHA POWERS by John Gilbert

The Gophers seemed to get their hockey act together for two victories and two
ties in their last four games, and now they get a break from the pressure of
the WCHA.

Some break: They will face Michigan, the nation's No. 1-ranked team, and No.
10 Michigan State this weekend.

The Gophers and archrival Wisconsin are representing the WCHA in the College
Hockey Showcase at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Mich., where they will play
CCHA powers Michigan and Michigan State.

The Gophers take on Michigan at 4:05pm Friday. Wisconsin (6-3-1 ranked Mo. 5)
plays Michigan State (5-2-3) at 7:05pm. The next day, the teams switch
partners, with the Gophers vs. Michigan State at 4:05pm and the Badgers vs.
the Wolverines at 7:05.

The Wolverines (9-0-1, 7-0-1 CCHA) moved to the top of the national ratings by
sweeping Ohio State last weekend. In 10 games, Michigan has scored 58 goals
and given up 25. The Gophers who have scored 28 and yielded 38, might recall
seniors David Oliver and Brian Wiseman being among the ringleaders when the
Wolverines beat the Gophers 7-3 and 7-6 at Ann Arbor two years ago.

Oliver leads the CCHA in scoring and Wiseman is tied for third with Jason
Botterill, a freshman left wing who will attract alot of attention. Botterill,
a 6-3 and 215 pounds, is an 18-year-old freshman who won't be eligible for the
NHL draft until June. But he leads the CCHA in goals with 10.

<more stats deleted for lack of time>

Under the "Etc." part:

Alaska-Anchorage got it's first WCHA point on the road by coming from a 4-0
deficit after one period to get a 4-4 tie at Michigan Tech, then won 5-1 the
next night for the Seawolves' first road victory....Colorado College leads the
WCHA with 46 goals...the Tigers have scored only six in the first period,
fewest in the league....This weekend, UMD goes to Northern Michigan. The
Bulldogs are 1-16-1 in their most recent games at Marquette; Northern Michigan
is 2-13-2 at Duluth over the same stretch. end quoted material.

There was also a very funny part about Denver coach Frank Serratore's reparte
at the Gopher Blue Line luncheon, and if time permits, I will post that later
today.

p.s. To John H. If any of Michigan stuff is incorrect....it's John Gilbert's
fault. Please feel free to update anything! thanks
