Brown defeated Vermont (3-1) and Dartmouth (6-2) on the road this
weekend. The Brown Bears have now won six in a row (including four in a
row on the road), seven of the last eight, and are 9-3-2 in 1993 (two of
the losses were to Maine and RPI, both on the road; one of the wins was
on the road against Lake Superior, and the two ties were at Clarkson and
Saint Lawrence). Brown's longest ECAC losing streak this year is two
games (three games overall in early December, when four of the top six
defensemen were out with injuries, and co-captains Derek Chauvette and
Scott Hanley were playing hurt). Brown has been impressive on the
road, having come out of every ECAC road trip with at least two
points. Brown is now in third place in the ECAC standings, three points
behind second-place RPI, and ahead of Yale, Clarkson and Saint Lawrence.
Brown's winning record includes victories against nationally-ranked
RPI, Lake Superior and Yale.

And yet, Brown doesn't seem to get much respect. RPI fans think that
it's all right to spit on the Brown coach. Cornell fans writing to this
list describe the play of the Brown team in Brown's 5-2 victory at Cornell
as "terrible" (although Brown outshot Cornell 35-19 and, according
to a friend of mine who was at the game, the Brown defense played
extremely well), and call Brown's freshman goaltender Mike Parsons a
"sieve" (although the young man has allowed a total of six goals in
his last three starts). Vermont fans, generally so prolific, have
posted no comments on Brown's victory over Vermont at Gutterson Field
House last Friday.

What other team in the country riding such a winning streak, sitting
in third place in a very competitive league, in which upsets are most
common (witness Dartmouth's victory over Harvard this weekend), and
playing so consistently well wouldn't get enough recognition to
break into the top fifteen in the hockey-l weekly poll?
