This one was hard-fought all the way.
Jason Currie started in goal for Clarkson and saw the game begin
just as it had for Chris Rogles last night. Princeton scored just seven
seconds into the game. Clarkson then began to control the game but a
defensive lapse put them behind 2-0, again just like last night. Again
Clarkson tied the score (this time by the time the period was half over).
The period ended with Clarkson outshooting the Tigers by about 13 to 3, but
the score was 2-2. The second period was scoreless, with Clarkson generally
controlling play but Princeton playing a rugged and tenacious game.
About 7 to 8 minutes into the third period the dam finally broke on a
fine goal by Dave Seitz who skated down the middle and converted a nice
centering pass. A couple of minutes later the nicest goal of the night was
scored by Tuomainen on a beautiful pass from Todd Marchant. The Knights
added one more goal and wound up outshooting the Tigers by about 41 to 24.
Princeton didn't take it well and vented their frustration in the waning
minutes, including one player who seemed to be trying to get at the Clarkson
bench after the final horn sounded. The entire Princeton bench emptied (by
the way, isn't there a rule that players should not leave the bench, even
after the final horn, if there's a fight in progress?). In any case, IMHO
the officiating was unusually poor, particularly from Hearn (Kelly wasn't so
bad). This was a tough, emotional weekend for Clarkson, in which they did
what they had to do. Those predictions for an NCAA bid are looking less and
less inappropriate, I should think...
Yale must have mounted an incredible comeback against St. Lawrence in
Canton. We heard of a 7-3 SLU lead, but at last notice it was 8-8 in OT!
