I still don't like it. The point is that he is receiving above $12000
for his services COACHING during the 92-92 season - regardless of the
date on the paycheck. The rule was meant (wrongly I think) to cut
expenses for some athletic deapartments. The last time I talked to
someone at UIC, thir intention was to use the second assistant parttime
in another position - that could be a whole new can of worms since I
don't think the coach will be punching a time clock for either job.
Maybe Minnesota is really being more open about getting around the rule
and I hope more coaches will be allowed for 93-94.
I think this "restricted earnings" is not unique to hockey in the NCAA.
