Sat. January 13, 1996 - Potsdam, NY

After losing to SLU the previous night (5-3) and to Clarkson two weeks
ago in the RPI Invitational (4-3) everyone expected the Clarkson - Providence
game to be a real tough contest, and what an exciting game it was.

Clarkson started out fast, with senior, captain Kevin Murphy getting the
games first goal to give Clarkson a 1-0 lead in the first. Providence and Clarkson then traded a pair of power play goals
(Dillabough-PC, Pagnutti-CU) to make it 2-1 with 9:00 mins to play in
the 1st. Providence's Burke added another goal with just under three mins
to play in the first to make it a 2-2 tie after one period of play.

The second period saw some more even scoring as both teams scored just
one goal (Guzior-PC a ppg, and White-CU) to make it 3-3 after two periods
of play. The third period saw Clarkson score first. Kevin Murphy scored
his second of the night to give the Golden Knights a 4-3 and then CU's
Jeremy Lopata scored what would be the game winning goal, a power-play goal
to give CU a 5-3 lead. PC added a goal with 9 mins to left to make a 5-4
contest. Neither team scored again, and CU had completed a sweep of HE
teams this weekend, while PC went home empty handed this weekend.

On a side note, there was about a 25 minute delay at the 8:34 mark of
the first period, when Clarkson's Jean - Francois Houle checked a PC
player into the glass, and the glass shattered. Houle was given a 2-min
penalty for hitting from behind (justified), and both Houle and the PC player
returned to play the remainder of the game.

This weekends games puts Clarkson at 12-5-2 overall, PC at 12-6-2 overall,
and Maine at 15-4-3 overall. Clarkson currently sits tied for fourth place
in the ECAC with four points separating the Cats of Vermont and CU.

Next weekend, Dartmouth and Vermont travel to the North Country to take
on CU and SLU.
