I have to agree with Paulette Dwen's assement of coach McCutcheon. When
you look at how much talent Cornell has recruited under him, you have to
be impressed. This is an Ivy League team, without scholarships, without
the noteriety of Harvard (as hard as this is to admit), which has nothing
but its hockey history and the Lynah Faithful to set it apart.

It seems to me that Cornell has put together one of the hardest working
teams in the ECAC. Last year was a bad year because of two things --
rebuilding and injuries. With fourteen or so new players taking the ice,
you can't expect to win that many. IMHO Cornell is looking great right
now when 5 on 5. Their goaltenders also seem to have improved remarkably
in the off season! If Santa brings them a power play, then they could
suprise some people toward the end of the season.

Next year, look for McCutcheon to have an ECAC contender on his hands once
again. And, give the coach (and all coaches) a break. The poor guy's
livelihood is tied up in how a bunch of 18-22 year olds perform (along
with a few bounces of the puck). Give instant gratification a break, and
learn to enjoy the sport for more than the emotional high of victory.
