    First of all, let me say that I have refereed up here in Edmonton
for 9 years, and if I am not mistaken, in a situation like that,
where the referee actually agrees with the coach, the referee is
within his rights to (and probably should) talk to the timekeeper (of
which I am one as well), and have the, in this case, 5 seconds added
back on to the game clock.

(*NOT* out of the rink). The ref called a delayed panalty for delay
of game. The player was not pleased. The bench was not pleased. The
fans were very unhappy. Was this call correct?

    The referee's call was correct.  The technically correct call for
this is `Closing the Hand on the Puck', (but for all those
timekeepers out there, we all know this won't all fit in the
*Massive* box which has been given to us to write in the infractions)
which does in fact call for a 2 minute minor penalty.
