In the past, many of us have hammered the Boston Globe for being a
plodding, pandering, overrated rag with the worst sportswhining on the
planet. Which it is. But their coverage of the Frozen Four has been
pretty good. They devoted a few pages to a summary of the semis, including
a nice little device for graphically displaying the "play of the game" by
drawing it on a slot hockey board (ah, the memories). Oh, and they got
everybody's name right. ;-)
To continue with this lovefest, the New Gahden is too large to be
comfortable, but taking the $$$ priorities as a given (gee, isn't it
wonderful to be in the bigtime?), it isn't nearly as weak a venue as for
example the Knick, isn't as boring as the Providence Civic Center, and it
looks a helluva lot nicer than the Worcester Centrum. An acceptable site
for eastern regionals in the future, though damned if I don't wish someone
would build a place with less corporate antisepticism (and antisceptism)
in, say, Syracuse, Glens Falls, or over the debris of the
mysteriously-torched Knick (hey it could happen, it's a Family city...)
